St. John, Pontypridd and Holland House, Cardiff - Gethin and Claire

We had really been looking forward to Claire and Gethin’s wedding and getting the New Year to start off with a bang. Fran and I genuinely go to every one of our weddings as guests … ok, we’re working but our mindset is to join with the families in a special celebration as an integral part of the wedding. One of the things we are careful to do is not impose photography on the wedding but to capture what occurs naturally with the tiniest amount of “styling” … then we produce an authentic record of the day, that is “real”.
To do this successfully means getting to know our couples and their families … a process which means we are normally “adopted” as part of the family. It’s very special and an immense privilege.
It was an early start … 6.30am to get down to Pontypridd, join the family and get Fran off to the hairdressers in Cardiff, my morning was slightly more leisurely with Gethin and a bevy of bacon rolls.
The ceremony was at St. John the Evangelist, The Graig, Pontypridd at 3pm, so there was plenty of time to fit everything in (but it always ends up a rush!), it was a beautiful and moving ceremony … the organist and choir probably amongst the best one would hear anywhere. Claire’s family have a long association with the church and it was evident that everyone involved with the church (it was packed to the rafters) were pulling out all the stops to give Geth and Claire a day they would never forget.
Leaving the church we travelled to Mercure Holland House in Cardiff for the reception via the steps at the Museum for some “atmospheric” photographs. Once again is was a privilege to be accomodated with the guests (180 of them!) for the wedding breakfast … thanks, Ray and Babs.
After the meal the bridal party were up for some fun so we walked out into town finding various interesting (and quirky) photo-opportunities.
In all we exposed around a 1,000 images and we already know that we are going to have difficulty editing them down to a reasonable number …..
And did we mention that BLACK wedding dress? Absolutely stunning ….!
