WooHoo …. winter weddings have arrived and the chance to show just what we can do with limited light. It’s Bob’s favourite time of year and where his award winning advertising background really pays dividends. We carry a level of mains-free portable lighting equipment that is rare amongst wedding photographers (for the uber-techies … 2 radio controlled Broncolor Mobil packs, 4 flash heads and 2 Frezzi mini-fill kits) and Bob has the skill and experience to use it all quickly and effectively.
Nick and Julie were absolutely delighted with this shot on the staircase at Llansantffraed Court, destined to be a big canvas over the mantlepiece. There are two radio controlled flash packs and a spotlight used in this shot … all placed swiftly and seamlessly. One is lighting the trees behind, one filling in the foreground and the spotlight is being held by Fran off of the balcony. Without the lighting it was pitch black apart from the carriage lamps on the staircase.
Similarly the shot of Nick with a very long lens during the speeches is captured with radio-controlled off-camera brolly-flash in the corner of the room, giving a beautiful shadowless lighting quality. We can deploy two of these during the speeches, set up on different radio channels that can be selected from the camera to give the best lighting effect for the circumstances, using one or both together. The skill is in adding enough light from the right direction without destroying the ambience of the reception lighting.
The shoe shot is one of Fran’s … at one of our venues she is called the “Detail Queen” as she captures all those little details, place cards, favours and anything the bride and groom have spent money on. With a macro lens and her eye for graphics, these “arty” pictures transform our albums into beautiful works of art.
