Chepstow Castle - Tudor Farmhouse, Sam and Catrin 15 Sept

We love what we do … and our couples love what we do too!
Catrin and Sam planned the fairy tale wedding of their dreams …. which is exactly how it turned out.
They met on a London bus and bizarrely found a big red London bus for hire just a few miles away to transport the boys team and guests to and from Clearwell to the ceremony in Chepstow.

Catrin dreamed of a horse and carriage, a beautiful castle within which to hold a traditional hand-fasting ceremony, surrounded by friends and family to share the day, with good weather to enjoy it all in.
Unlike most fairy tales …. It all came true!
And what a privilege to be invited to photograph all this for them. It was without doubt the perfect day in every sense.
A very long time since I rode on a big red Routemaster, so the journey in to Chepstow was a trip down memory lane.
As had been the case for the last few weddings (not that I am complaining!) it was another bright and contrasty day, but the great thing about a ruined castle is that you can find good quality light everywhere, providing you know what to look for. Simple shade is not enough, the quality of light is much better on the edge in the transition zone and the trick is to use this light as it wraps around the walls and stairways. Again the reflector was our friend and we chose to back and rim light alot of our images by bouncing light in. Much more controllable than flash and you can actually see the effect. Very quick and easy to use.
The marquee was set up in a field adjacent to the hotel and the avenue was lit by torches when the light began to fade. After the first dance Sam and Catrin made themselves available for a short 10 minute session so that we could get some of our “signature” evening shots in the bag, using a combination of found lighting and our secret weapon.
