Batley Church - Gomersal Park Hotel - Scott and Helen
It was a long (very slow) trip up the motorway network on Friday afternoon to get from Tintern to Batley. On distance weddings we always arrive the day before to avoid the possibility of traffic jams and stress … Helen and Scott had the perfect day weather wise and as we were on a full day we had lots of time to catch the soft evening light for some beautiful, romantic evening shots.
We shot Helen’s brother’s wedding to Gemma back in 2006 at Clearwell and it was fabulous to meet up with them both again and swap stories. It’s always brilliant when we are shooting the wedding as “one of the family”.
Regrettably the vicar at Batley Church seems to have had some bad experience with photographers in the past and the church has a strict policy of no photography during the ceremony whatsoever. It’s always best to check before the day as policy varies tremendously up and down the country. Although we are thoroughly professional, with no flash, quiet cameras and no moving around plus the couple and family desperately wanted pictures … the answer was still no … Somehow these “rules” never apply to videographers …..
Gomersal Park Hotel is set in lovely parkland and proved to be the ideal setting for the reception. Fran and I shot rather a lot of exposures between us, so there is some very tight editing to be done …
Thanks for putting us up (and up with us?) for two nights and treating us as guests too! It changes our occupation from “job” to “amazing life-style” even though we work extremely hard, it’s enjoyable. There can’t be many pursuits where you can create and give something unique and very special to someone else, that they will value and treasure for a lifetime.
