A Little Background History

Tune in any weekday at 9.00 am on Discovery Real Time Channel 251, and if you can’t sleep even earlier at 8.00 am on 250 and I, like many  thousands of people marvel at the ‘Joy of Painting’ demonstration by  the quitely spoken bushy haired Bob Ross, completing a remarkable Landscape painting in just 30 minutes.
My only claim to fame as an artist before undertaking Bob Ross Teacher Training, was a commissioned portrait of the Rt Hon William Hague ,and having painted Watercolour, Pastels and Acrylics with mixed sales success at exhibitions, I came across the Bob Ross style way back in 1994 when wintering in Tenerife. .An Artist friend loaned me a copy of one of the many Bob Ross  ‘Joy of Painting’  ‘How To’ books that parallel the 390 programmes featured in the 30 TV Series ,and I just had to have a go ,and could not believe how easy the wet on wet oil painting  technique was.
Unlike traditional oil painting involving layer upon layer, with in between drying time of days and weeks, this wet on wet technique enabled me to complete a successful painting in just one session, as hundreds of Bob Ross Joy of Painting Students will testify.

Come and try it yourself & enjoy 1 or more days painting,

Who is Bob Ross ?

Bob was born in Daytona Beach Florida son of a carpenter, joined the Air Force at an early age and served for 20 years, during which in his free time he studied art.
On retirement from the Air Force he studied the wet on wet techniques pioneered by William Alexander in the 1930’s and travelled America undertaking demonstrations and workshops which  subsequently led to the highly successful Joy of Painting Television Series.
Bob’s folksy chatter, love of nature and wildlife ,coupled with the painting technique that                                                                enables anyone to do it, even if you have never painting before, made him the most popular of Television Artists  world wide.
Favourite sayings ‘We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy accidents’ ‘ are you ready  for the  Bravery Test’ ( Where upon a huge tree trunk would effortlessly appear to be given  branches, twigs and foliage in no time at all)  have become folk law.
Sadly Bob lost his wife in 1993 and 2 years later passed away himself at the relatively
young   age of 52. However his legacy lives on through the popular TV Show , and the worldwide  network  of Certified Ross Instructors of which I am proud to be associated.
